Peninsula On Demand: What You Can and Can't Ask in an Interview

A job interview is the most critical stage in the recruitment process. It is your chance to assess the suitability of a candidate and – at a time of labour shortage – make a good first impression to attract talent.

Getting the interview process right will not only help you find quality hires, but also reduce risk of potential litigation and negative publicity that asking discriminatory interview questions may lead to.

The human rights law in Canada prohibits discrimination in employment, including in job ads, on application forms, and through the questions asked during an interview. You must ensure the information you seek from applicants is relevant to the job and does not violate grounds protected under applicable human rights law.

Do you know what kind of questions to ask and which to avoid during an interview? Do you know how to eliminate bias while hiring? Are you aware of interviewing good practices that’ll help you snag the best employees?

In this webinar, you’ll learn how to protect your business from litigation and claims of discrimination with guidance on the questions you should and shouldn’t ask in interviews.

At the webinar, we'll go over:
  • Discriminatory topics to avoid during an interview
  • The right questions to ask to gauge candidate suitability
  • How to phrase sensitive questions appropriately
  • Benefits of conducting structured interviews
  • Why you should ask behavioral questions
  • And more…
